The North Market first opened its doors to the public in 1876. Back then, it’s just one of the four public markets in Columbus. The other three markets – South, East, and West – all disappeared and North Market is the only one left standing. However, the building where the market is now is already a new one. The original building burned down during a fire that occurred in 1948. The merchants of the old market pulled together and bought the Quonset hut to serve as the location of the new North Market. In 1990, the market transferred again and the North Market Development Authority was formed.
