Ohio Theater

Opened in 1928, Ohio Theater has earned over time the title of the leading stage in Ohio hosting a plethora of performances and different events. Designed by Thomas Lamb, the theater boasts 2791 seats nested in an opulent palace hall featuring a Spanish Baroque architecture that takes your breath away. Here are some characteristics of the theater that helps it stand out from other stages.

Outstanding design

To ensure the theater’s interior looks outstanding, Lamb decided to choose a woman to decorate the interior. The choice fell on Anne Dornan, a graduate of Colombia School of Architecture. She traveled the world to collect the needed decorations and even embarked on a safari adventure to find the furnishings for the African lounge. All these efforts proved to be not in vain at all, as the final result was mind-blowing with an opulent palace that abounded in decorations worth $1 million. One of the most prominent elements is a 21-foot high chandelier that tells about the grandeur of Ohio Theater and has been preserved to our days pleasing the eyes of visitors.

Excellent acoustics

One of the main assets of Ohio Theater is its outstanding acoustics. Thanks to the Lamb’s ability in making sounds propagate to farthest lounges, every performance can be clearly heard and enjoyed no matter which seat you got in this imposing hall. Whether you watch a movie, attend an orchestra performance or enjoy a ballet program, rest assured, the acoustics will be of the highest quality.

A favorite of artists

A large and multi-purpose stage along with excellent acoustics and breath-taking interior make Ohio Theater a favorite among artists. You can attend the concerts of the leading ballet, music and theater performers that guarantee you get satisfied with the time spent in their company. Aside from national performers, you can enjoy popular artists from other countries.

Lots of events

Regular performances

The theater hosts one-time events, annual events as well as monthly events held by its permanent residents: Columbus Symphony Orchestra and Ballet Met. Moreover, the Summer Movie Series shows movies almost every day. In this way, the boiling life of the theater allows you never to run out of options when the desire for attending a theater night arises.

Preserved initial architecture

While having undergone a number of restorations, Ohio Theater has preserved most its initial architecture unlike other outstanding buildings designed by Thomas Lamb that turned to ruins or were upgraded with modern elements.
